this reminds me of an exhibit that was at stony brook. it was called hybrid geographies. it showcased different art mediums that showed the connections between art and technology. two pieces stand out in my mind. one was a piece that took thousands of random peoples photos from facebook and made a collage with them. i think the collage was
our pictures are public property on facebook. scary.
another piece was a morse code machine that was hooked up to a computer. every time someone posted "i miss you" or "miss you" or any sentence with the phrase "miss you" in it, the machine typed out, in mores code, miss you. you would not believe how frequently that machine was typing. there was not a moment without the clacking of the morse code machine.
our words are public property on the internet. scary.
pleaserobme.com is an extension of this. it lists peoples tweets saying where they are and when they've left their homes. makes it easier to rob them this way.
i'm not trying to dis the internet. there are multitudes of wonderful things about it. this pleaserobme.com put all of this internet surveillance into a different perspective. it's great that we're all even more closely connected but i think this can also be quite intrusive. literally and figuratively.
