As a wholly impressionable and rather enthusiastic participant in the modes and fashions of this present era, this second decade of the 21st century, I cease not to be enamored by those same modes and fashions driving and provoking me farther along into the exploration of what it is to be of this decade, this moment in time.
Surely, the human being in physique, in intellect, in potential is none different from that of the last decade or, for that matter, a hundred decades prior to this. Rather so fascinating is the context of such aspects; when physique meets the might of machine; intellect the forces of telecommunication, the internet and the instantaneous exchange of information – for I believe it is.
And yet, we, as beings, human for this case and point, share in common with those humans of decades prior those needs and desires transcendent, no, oblivious of this “Age of Information” that we find ourselves enraptured with.
All “ages”, historically, are those of information, for that matter, but the present age is one of rapid exchange; of information that need not be exchanged perhaps…your tweets on Twitter, your status on Facebook…
We are beings not of a most particular disposition, for as all beings, human or not, we crave the company of others. Do we?
How does one respond to those statutes of loneliness? To the demand of its relinquishment? Examining beyond the proverbial “needs” of a sexual nature an individual may act upon, what of the “need” for companionship? The “need” for another’s face, another’s eyes, the hands of another? What then?
The intersection of need and of desire, of the need to telecommunicate desire is a 21st century phenomenon.
I, reclining here in the echelons of needs and wants, can but speculate upon it. Couples walking, talking, loving silently as their hands trace the efficacy of the other’s in that oblivious need – the raptures of want.
For myself: I need, I want…and so I post it for the world to see.
Want me?
