Sel's Grant

To whom it may concern,
Hello, my name is Selmary Vazquez. I am a senior in Stony Brook University. I am graduating this Spring with a bachelors degree in theatre. My goals in life are to pursue a career in teaching elementary school and working in a theatre production because education and drama are my passions. I only wish there was a career that fully intertwines these two, then I would be happy. I would like to conduct some experiments on children in pre-school to learn more about their attention spans, and their ability to absorb knowledge. I want to see what teaching methods will help improve these abilities in students. Once I figure this out I will involve drama in the lesson plans. I want to prove that children learn better with drama in their lesson plans because they interact with it. I want to find out what are the benefits of children using their imaginations while learning. I will compare and contrast a class with out drama, and one with drama. I will find out which class is better for educational purposes.

Once my research, and experiments are done, I will set up a work shop that allows videos of my experiments and teaching methods to be viewed by an audience. I will also start a petition to change the education system to be more drama friendly. I want the governor of New York City to make my workshop mandatory for all elementary school teachers because I know this system is failing our children. In order for me to make my work shop possible, I would need $5,000 to pay for a laptop, a video camera and all materials necessary for my class. This will be an asset for the current education system. Thank you for your cooperation.
